Owner/DVM
Dr. Swearingen graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1987 and purchased Village Veterinary Clinic in 2005. She loved raising her family in Grayslake and being able to achieve her dream of owning a boutique vet clinic in her home community. She and her husband Rick have four children whom all are currently living out their dreams across the Midwest. She shares her home with her Golden Retriever, Ivy, and Jack, her Siamese cat. Dr. Swearingen enjoys spending her free time with her family, horseback riding, boating, and enjoying the family farm in Champaign/Urbana. She is passionate about delivering compassionate quality medicine and surgery to her community’s furry family members. To enrich you and your pets' experience, our exam rooms offer the choice of a sofa for your pet’s exam, in addition to a traditional exam table. Her goal is to make you and your pet feel at home the minute you pass through our doors at Village Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Swearingen believes in combining a holistic approach with traditional medicine and surgery to deliver the gold standard of veterinary care to your pet.

Dr. Cindy Marks attended the University of Illinois and pursued a degree in Biology, she graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. She knew from a very early age that she wanted to be a veterinarian and help animals. She began her career as a veterinary assistant/receptionist and later achieved her dream of becoming a D.V.M at VVC. Dr. Marks enjoys high-quality medicine with a focus on internal medicine. She is also an active member of AVMA, ISVMA, and Chicago VMA. Dr. Marks shares her life with her husband Brian, a Waukegan firefighter, her son Brandon, and her daughter Lindsey. She has two rescue dogs, Ginger and Stella, and two cats, Max, and Smokey. In her free time, Dr. Marks loves spending time with her family and animals, going to her son’s football games, attending her daughter dance competitions, watching movies, and enjoying the outdoors.

Dr. Joe Armagno graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine with honors in 1993. He currently has a dog named Zoey, a Jack Russell terrier, and a corn snake that belongs to his son. In his free time, he loves being outdoors and traveling to his cabin up in Northern Wisconsin.
COO/ Practice Manager
Nicole has been part of Dr. Swearingen's team since 2000. She lives in Gurnee with her husband Wade and their 3 sons Ethan, Noah, and Mason. They also have a sweet cat named Brady and a beautiful Golden Retriever named Charley. In her free time Nicole enjoys cooking, traveling, boating, camping, watching her kids sports, and cheering on the Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks.
Director of Client Service Representatives
Cheryl started as a receptionist at VVC in 2006 then came on full-time. She loves working with clients and patients. She and her husband live in Hainesville, and she has two dogs named Karma and Brogan.
Veterinarian Technician
Alix has worked at VVC since 2014. Outside of work she has a son named Liam, a protective mixed breed named Mauser, and a beautiful Thoroughbred. She is vital to the VVC team's success and truly loves caring for the local animal community. When she is not working she loves spending time with her son. They enjoy baking, fishing, biking, riding, swimming, playing basketball, and baseball.
Veterinarian Technician
Nina joined our team in 2021. She not only enjoys small animal medicine but also large animal and exotic medicine. Outside of work she spends her time with her husband and 2 dogs, a Dachshund and Doberman. Along with riding her horse, kyaking, boating, and running her petsitting business.

Val has been with Village Veterinary Clinic since 2008. She lives in Lake Villa with her husband Brian, their son Zach, and their Am Staff Rexy. Val and her family love doing anything outdoors. Camping and Kayaking are some of her favorites.

Allison joined our team in 2020. She has a contagious laugh and loves helping our patients in any way she can! Outside of work she likes to garden, take care of her plants, travel, and watching sports (cheering on her fighting Illini especially)!

Jayne joined VVC in 2019 and has been a great asset to the team! Along with her skills as a Vet tech assistant, she is also very skilled in animal massage. She loves riding horses and helping the Grayslake animal community!

She has been in the veterinary field since 2000. She lives in Johnsburg with her husband and son. She has 2 dogs and 2 cats. Outside of work, she enjoys crafting, hiking, and spending time with her family along with watching her son play soccer.
Client Service Representative
Kerry has been with Village Vet since 2007. She has lived in Grayslake for over 32 years. Kerry and her husband Terry have 4 kids, 2 Doodles, and a duck. Kerry loves being upfront, helping the clients but also is a great helping hand for the techs in the back.

Karyn has been a client of Dr. Swearingen for 19 years and came on board as a part-time receptionist in July 2012. Karyn lives in Hainesville with her husband Jerry, three children, and their Golden Retriever Barnes. She truly enjoys assisting clients and loves to greet their furry friends. During her free time, she enjoys bike riding, going to movies, spending time with her family, and visiting with her friends.

Chris has worked at Village Veterinary clinic since 2005 as a receptionist. She has two sons, Greg and Jeff. Their family is complete with 3 cats, Ziti, Fredo & Scofield. Chris enjoys her work tremendously, especially meeting new patients (4 legged) and new breeds. Her hobbies include baking and gemology.
